baSf Se in 1986 as a trainee and held
various positions within performance
plastics, corporate communications,
procurement and in the nutrition and
health division in germany, Japan and
Switzerland.

Vopak, Sabic form JV to build
export terminal in Saudi Arabia

largest independent tank storage
service provider, announced that it
will build, together with Saudi basic
industries corp. (Sabic), a new storage
terminal in King fahd industrial port at
Jubail, Saudi arabia. for this purpose,
the two companies have established
a joint venture, the Jubail chemical
Storage and Services co. (JcSSc). Sabic
will own 75% of the JV, Vopak 25%.
financial details of the deal were
not revealed other than financing will
come from the parties’ own resources,
as well as through external funds.
The new facility will have an initial
storage capacity of approximately
250,000 cubic meters (cbm). The
first phase will consist of around 40
commodity and specialty chemical
storage tanks, complete with truck
handling and ship loading facilities
for five berths. This capacity can be
expanded in the future. commissioning
is planned by early 2015.

Sasol announces GTL
project in U.S.A.

SouTh africa’S SaSol lTd. will
begin engineering and design work
on a 96,000-barrel-per-day (bpd)
gas-to-liquids (gTl) plant in westlake,
louisiana, in what could be the first
such plant in north america.
it will be the second-largest plant of
its kind in the world, after royal dutch
Shell’s pearl plant in Qatar, which has a
capacity of 140,000 bpd.
The facility, which is estimated to
cost about uS$14 billion, would convert
low-cost natural gas into clean-burning
diesel fuel. Sasol said it will make a
final investment decision on the plant
in 2014, after the engineering and
design review is finished. production is
scheduled to begin in 2018.
The state of louisiana is providing
more than uS$2 billion worth of tax
credits and other incentives for the
project.
meanwhile, the company said that a
gTl plant to be built in alberta, canada,
will be delayed for at least a year. The
company was expected to decide by
december 2012 on whether to proceed
with the uS$200-million front-end
engineering and design study for the
project.
Sasol is a pioneer in gTl technology;
it has a joint venture project in Qatar
known as oryx gTl, with a nameplate
capacity of 32,400 bpd.
