here’s one from The world economic forum (wef). according to the wef’s
global agenda council on emerging Technologies, online electric Vehicles or
oleV are among one of the 10 most promising technology trends of 2013.
The next generation of electric cars will be powered while being driven
and is expected to require only 20% of the current battery capacity of electric
cars to achieve the same mileage.
in July, two oleV buses will start trial operation in the South Korean city of
gumi, which was chosen because of its good electrical infrastructure, among
others.
The oleV developed by the Korean advanced institute of Science and
Technology (KaiST) allows the transfer of electrical power using magnetic fields
embedded on the roads. a 24-kilometer trial route will start construction in
february, costing 4.8 billion won (uS$4.4 million).
The ability to charge while on the road means that the oleV will require a
smaller battery than the ordinary electric vehicle, which will greatly impact its
weight and lower its price.
KaiST started development work in 2009 and by 2010 most of the core
technologies were developed and verified. last year, steps to commercialize
the oleV were pursued. by october 2012, KaiST oleV had accomplished 75%
power transfer efficiency, paving the way for its commercialization.
