ILSAC GF-6:
落后于进度
pArtICIpANtS OF the
petroChina conference held in
dalian, China, last September,
heard that ILSAC gF-6, the
next North American/Japanese
passenger car engine oil industry
specification, will miss its original
target of 2015.
Steve Moore, regional product
line manager, AeO, with Chevron
Oronite based in beijing, told
participants that some of the new
tests for this specification were
delayed and will likely miss their
end of 2012 deadline.
without the appropriate tests
in place, commercial availability
of lube products that meet the
standard will also be delayed.
The testing process can last nine
months or more, which then slows
down the development of additive
packages. First licensing shortly
follows this development process.
Official confirmation of
the delay came after a meeting
in late October in detroit,
Michigan, u.S.A. At that meeting
were representatives from the
washington, d.C.-based American
petroleum Institute (ApI). ApI is a
member of the Auto-Oil Advisory
panel, which recently replaced the
ILSAC/Oil Committee. ILSAC
specifications are developed
through this committee, which is
composed of representatives from
ILSAC-member companies and the
ApI Lubricants group.
“The date discussed during
the meeting is September 1,
2016. That timeline is now being
considered by the Lubricants
group,” said kevin Ferrick,
ApI’s manager of global industry
services.
The replacement or modified
tests under development for gF-6
are Sequence IIIh, IVb, Vh and
VIe, with development being
sponsored by gM, toyota and
Ford. All are ILSAC members,
either directly or through the
Japan Automobile Manufacturers
Association (JAMA). The first
test evaluates oxidation stability
and piston deposits, while the
second measures valve-train wear.
Sequence Vh monitors sludge and
deposits. VIe is the likely name for
the replacement of the current VId
fuel economy test.

石油大会上了解到,下一代的北美/日本
乘用车发动机油行业标准ILSAC GF-6
不能按计划在2015年推出。
Chevron Oronite AEO
Kevin
Ferrick说。

whatever the designation, the
last test is particularly vital. Fuel
economy is mandated by legislation
in many parts of the world, and
fuel economy throughout a car’s
lifetime is important to today’s
consumers in view of high oil
prices. In turn, that often requires
certain lubricant performance.
“we generally formulate to
pass these [tests] first,” said don
Smolenski, OeM industry liaison
manager at evonik Oil Additives,
who is with the german company’s
u.S.-based subsidiary. “They are,
I’ve always believed, the most
relevant part of the specification
because they’re running in an
actual engine that is on the road, an
actual production engine.”
New tests are needed because
hardware to run the old tests will
soon no longer be available. The
camshaft load wear monitoring
Sequence IVA test in gF-5, for
example, runs on a 1994 engine.
It needs to be replaced with a test
running on modern hardware.
