from naphthenic crudes. Naph-
thenics have a higher solvency
than paraffinic crude, which makes
them ideal for industrial applica-
tions where solvency is desired,
such as the production of greases,
metalworking fluids, rubber (as a
softener), etc.
In Phase 2 of the takeover, a
hydrogen production plant will be
built and operated by a third-party
supplier. “The reason for phase 2 is
we need to rebuild the present fuel
and lube refinery, and make sure it
can act to only produce naphthenic
specialty oils. This will take about
two years, and a new hydrogen unit is
needed since hydrogen earlier came
from the fuel refinery that will be
closed down,” Dahlstedt said.
