Florida project produces
first commercial-scale
cellulosic ethanol plant
in U.S.

The U.S. Department of Energy
(DOE) recognized the country’s first
commercial-scale cellulosic ethanol
production at INEOS Bio’s Indian River
BioEnergy Center in Vero Beach, Fla.
Developed through a joint venture
between INEOS Bio and New Planet En-
ergy, the project uses a unique hybrid
of gasification and fermentation tech-
nology to convert waste materials into
transportation fuels as well as energy.
“Unlocking the potential for the
responsible development of all of
America’s rich energy resources is a criti-
cal part of our all-of-the-above energy
strategy,”said U.S. Energy Secretary
Ernest Moniz.
The Indian River County BioEnergy
Center will have an annual output of
eight million gallons of cellulosic ethanol
per year as well as six megawatts (MW)
of clean, renewable power annually.

Total SA and its joint venture
partner have agreed to buy Chevron
Corp.’s retail distribution business in
Pakistan, following an earlier announce-
ment by the French company that it
will acquire the U.S. firm’s Egyptian retail
business.
Total-PARCO Pakistan Ltd., a joint
venture between Total and Pak Arab
Refinery Ltd. (PARCO), will acquire
Chevron’s fuel marketing, logistics and
aviation business in Pakistan.
Chevron operates under the Caltex
brand in Pakistan and also has a lubri-
cant business, which was not included
in the sale.
Meanwhile, Total and its Egyptian
partners Beltone Capital and Beltone
Private Equity (BPE) Energy concluded an
agreement in August to acquire Chevron’s
retail network, general retail and aviation
businesses in Egypt.
The move would create Total’s big-
gest marketing and services subsidiary
outside Europe. The Chevron network in-
cludes 66 service stations, two oil depots
and the aviation fuel operations at Cairo
and Marsa Alam airports.

In May, Total also agreed to buy the
Egyptian retail business of Royal Dutch
Shell, which was comprised of 85 outlets.
Once the Shell and Chevron purchas-
es close, the annual sales of Total Egypt
will exceed 3 million metric tons through
218 service stations, which will give Total
a 14%market share. Before these acquisi-
tions, Total had a 4%market share, with 70
service stations.

Caltex Australia Ltd. an-
nounced the appointment of Bruce
Rosengarten as its new general
manager – marketing, effective Dec.
2. In this role, Rosengarten will be
responsible for all of Caltex Australia’s
marketing operations, which includes
the franchisee and company-owned
retail network, the reseller and direct
sales channels and also wholesale
product sales.
Rosengarten is an Australian
executive with a distinguished
international career across a variety of
industries. Currently, he is president for
Asia Pacific and Emerging Markets of
Weight Watchers International. Previ-
ously, he held a number of key roles
with Shell International, such as global
vice president retail marketing, vice
president retail – Shell Oil Products,
Asia Pacific/Middle East and managing
director, Shell Retail – Oceania.

Citgo Petroleum Corp., a
refiner, transporter and marketer of
transportation fuels, lubricants and
petrochemicals based in Houston,
Texas, has appointed Nelson Marti-
nez as president and CEO, as well as
chairman and member of the board
of directors, positions previously held
by Alejandro Granado.
Martinez brings more than 30 years
of experience in the energy industry
to his new role. Before this recent
appointment, Martinez served as the
managing internal director for Petro-
leos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA).
