VICTORW. WONG
Director, Engine-Lubricants-Emissions ResearchConsortium
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Victor Wong is a fellow of the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication
Engineers (STLE), Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the American
Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Victor graduated from the Massa-
chusetts Institute of Technology, U.S.A. (PhD, MS) and has been teaching and
mentoring students at MIT since 1986, where he is currently the director of the
Engine-Lubricants-Emissions Research Consortium and the principal research
scientist at the Sloan Automotive Laboratory. Victor pioneered research on
lubricant-additive impact on emissions and after-treatment systems. In the last
10-15 years, he developed and conducted advanced research programs on
the effects of lubricant formulation on friction and fuel economy of engines
with extensive government and industry support.
Recently, Victor chaired the Engine and Drivetrain Committee of STLE and
the Internal Combustion Engine Division of ASME. He currently serves as
Associate Editor of Tribology Transactions, an STLE journal. He won the SAE
Lubricants Award twice (in 1992 and 2002) and the ASME Engine Division
Award for Achievements in the field of Engine Friction, Efficiency and Oil
Consumption. Previously, Victor spent eight years at Cummins Inc. as Man-
ager of Cooling and Lubrication Systems and a brief tenure at Detroit Diesel
Corporation.
VIJIT TANGNOI
Executive Vice President, PTT Research and Technology Institute
PTT Public Company Ltd.
Vijit Tangnoi received his B.Sc. in chemical engineering from Chulalongkorn
University, Thailand, his M.S. in industrial engineering from the University of
Texas at Arlington, U.S.A., and a B.B.A. from Sukhothai Thammathirat Open
University, Thailand. He has been working with PTT Public Company Lim-
ited for 30 years in fuels and lubes research, process technology research,
corporate strategy and business development. Presently, he is Executive
Vice President, PTT Research and Technology Institute, managing research
and development of product/technology from upstream to downstream
along PTT’s value chain of oil and gas, petrochemical, biofuel/biomaterial
and renewable energy.
In 1981, Vijit carried out a study on the utilisation of natural gas in the LPG
market in Thailand. In 1994, as Fuel Technology Division Manager, he worked
to launch the first unleaded gasoline in Thailand. He was also involved in the
research and formulation of automotive and industrial lubricants. In 1998, he
was Corporate Business Development Division Manager. In addition, Vijit was
a leader of the Tran-ASEAN Gas Pipeline Task Force of the ASEAN Council
on Petroleum and carried out a feasibility study of connecting gas pipelines
between ASEAN countries. In 2005, he moved to the Refining and Petrochem-
ical Business Development Department, accomplished the feasibility study
and established PTT Polymer Logistic Company. In 2007, as vice president in
the Process Technology Research Department, he helped drive the research
in the petroleum and petrochemical field, in the areas of absorbents, catalysts,
process technology and polymer by using process simulation and molecular
modelling.
