EDWARDBECKER
President &Founder, Friction&Wear Solutions, LLC
Edward Becker is former president and fellowof the Society of Tribologists and
Lubrication Engineers. He holds a PhD inmechanical engineering from the
University of Michigan. Ed retired fromGeneral Motors after more than 30 years,
mostly in the Powertraindivisionworkingon a variety of GMengines and trans-
missions. In addition, Ed is the president and founder of Friction&Wear Solutions,
LLC, a consulting firmdedicated to solving tribology problems. Also of note, he is a
licensedprofessional engineer inMichigan andholds six U.S. patents.
SELDAGUNSEL
Vice President, Global Commercial Technology, Shell
Selda Gunsel is responsible for leading a global group of scientists and engi-
neers and delivering a broad range of technology programs to Shell Global
Commercial Business. Her previous leadership roles include Vice President
of Global Fuels & B2B Technology, GM Lubricants Technology Group, GM
Global Lubricants Strategic R&D and as a member of the Lubricants Business
Americas Leadership Team.
Following an assignment in Shanghai, Selda has relocated to Houston and
is based at the Shell Technology Center, where she works to establish a new
Lubricants Technical Center for Shell.
Selda received her BSc in Chemical Engineering from the Istanbul Tech-
nical University and an MSc and PhD, also in Chemical Engineering, from the
Pennsylvania State University, U.S.A. She has held sabbatical assignments at
the Imperial College, U.K. Selda has also published extensively in the field of
lubrication science and received patents. She served as the president of the
Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE) and the chairman of
the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Lubricants Research Award Board.
