A state-of-the-art lube blending
and grease-making plant, jointly set up
by the Hinduja Group and the govern-
ment in UAE’s Ras Al Khaimah emirate, has
been commissioned with an aim to gain
a regional market share of up to 8% in the
next four years.
Gulf RAK Oil LLC was established in
Maritime City, Ras Al Khaimah.
The joint venture enjoys an LLC status,
being a Government of Ras Al Khaimah
company.
A joint venture of the Government of
Ras Al Khaimah and Gulf Oil International,
the energy business of the Hinduja Group,
the facility has a blending capacity of
70,000 metric tons per annum (MTPA).
Spanning more than than 13 acres,
the production facility at Gulf RAK
includes blending, filling and storage
of finished products. The plant has also
been set up with a small packaging
filling line. The plant can fill small packs
up to 6,000 MTPA, in addition to grease
production and filling of up to 10,000
MTPA.
Strategically located by the side of
Saqr Port Canal, the facility has a direct
pipeline access from the ship to the com-
pany’s base oil storage tanks.
IDO and Gulf Oil, through another
joint venture, Standard Greases and
Specialties (India) Ltd., have also commis-
sioned a grease-manufacturing unit in the
same facility at Ras Al Khaimah.
“We are very pleased to launch our
lubricant and grease manufacturing plant
in Ras Al Khaimah. The plant is strategi-
cally located to enjoy easy accessibility as
well as supportive trading policies which
makes it viable for our products to be
available at much more economical rates
to the end user across the Gulf Coopera-
tion Council (GCC) and MENA region,”said
Frank Rutten, vice president, international
of Gulf Oil.

Bulgarian motor oils and
industrial lubricants producer Prista
Oil said that it has invested a total
of €1.7 million (US$2.19 million) in
expansion and upgrades at its Hun-
garian plant, Bogdany Petrol.
The investment was supported by
EU funds and the Hungarian govern-
ment, which provided a €500,000
(US$645,395) state subsidy for the
project, the Bulgarian company said
in a press release.
Bogdany Petrol’s core business
is production of wax and lubricants
used in the pharmaceutical, cosmet-
ics and cable making industries. The
investment in integrated high-tech-
nology equipment will allow the plant
to improve control over many areas,
the press release said.
Bogdany Petrol exports 96% of
its final output to countries in the EU
and Africa.
Prista Oil Group ( www.prista-oil.
com), based in the Bulgarian Danube
port city of Ruse, is a holding com-
pany whose main line of business is
car batteries and lubricants.

Malaysian lubricant manufac-
turer Hyrax Oil Sdn Bhd is setting up a
blending plant in Maputo, Mozambique,
in a joint venture with local oil company
Petroleos de Mocambique S.A. (PetroMoc).
The range of petroleum products the
plant will produce includes automo-
tive, industrial, marine and specialty
lubricants, which are to be exported to
neighboring countries.
Under the 70-30 joint venture
agreement, PetroMoc will prepare two
hectares of land for
the plant as well as
secondary facilities
such as storage at the
nearby port Matola,
while Hyrax Oil is to
set up the equipment,
provide experts and
market the product to
neighboring countries.
Upon completion
at year-end, the blend-

Although the lubricant market size in
Mozambique is only estimated at around
12 million liters per annum, the other
countries in the South African Develop-
ment Community (SADC) consume up
to 700 million liters per annum.
By taking advantage of existing free
trade agreements, it is expected that trade
benefits such as stamp duties and tax
exemption will give the products a more
competitive edge in terms of pricing.
Hazimah added that
the Malaysian company’s
initial outlay of US$10 million
towards the approximately
US$50 million project will
ultimately boost Hyrax Oil’s
revenue of RM105 million
(US$33.8 million) by 20-30%
this year.
Currently, PetroMoc con-
tributes about five percent to
10% to that amount.
