Rowe to add 120,000 tons
of blending capacity

Rowe Mineralölwerk Gmbh
marked the completion of the shell of its
new headquarters inWorms, Germany,
with a topping-out ceremony in June. The
company’s new headquarters has been
under construction since December 2012.
When fully completed at the end of
2013, the 82,000-square meter plant will
have a production capacity of 120,000
tons per year. The new headquarters
will have a total of four halls, which will
accommodate the production and filling
systems, two warehouse complexes,
offices and a laboratory.
“I am very pleased that the construc-
tion of our new headquarters is progress-
ing on schedule. In Worms, we will have
one of the most modern lubricant plants
in Europe and will continue to set bench-
marks with our products, our employees
and not least of all our excellent service,”
said Managing Director Michael Zehe.
Despite the relocation of the head-
quarters, Rowe intends to retain all its
production facilities in Bubenheim.

MAG Lubricants has opened a
30,000 square meter, state-of the-art new
blending facility in Jebel Ali’s greater in-
dustrial zone in the United Arab Emirates.
MAG Lubricants operates under the
bigger MAG Group umbrella, which was
founded in Abu Dhabi in 1978. The parent
company has invested US$50 million for
the project.
The plant features two new smart
buildings; one houses the storage facility,
the other the manufacturing facility. UK’s

Valvoline Cummins Limited, a
joint venture betweenAshland, Inc. and
Cummins India Limited, announced the
opening of a grassroots lube blending
and packaging plant in the Ambernath
Industrial Area, near Mumbai, India.
The facilitywill produceValvoline-
branded automotive lubricants for the
consumer, industrial and heavy-duty
markets. Built on 10 acres, the newUS$30
million plant expands theValvoline brand’s
in-house production capabilities. It will also
assist in the brand’s ability to deliver fast,
localized technical services to customers in
India, SouthAsia and other nearby coun-
tries. Initial production capacity is 120mil-
lion liters per year, which can be expanded
to 150million liters in the future.

Gulf Oil International Group
officially opened a new state-of-the-art
lubricants blending plant in Argentina.
Some 38 km from the country’s
capital, Buenos Aires, the new plant is
located on the Acceso Oeste high-
way that links the main routes of the
MERCOSUR customs union countries
(Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay
and Venezuela).
Gulf’s old plant, which was situated
on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, pre-
sented the company with limited space
for development and offered certain
logistical difficulties. This, coupled with
an increasing demand for Gulf products,
made the decision to build a new plant
inevitable, Emilio Alvarez Cañedo, CEO
of Gulf Oil Argentina, said.
The plant has an initial production
target of 6,000 tons a year. For the next
three years, production is estimated at
9,600 tons per annum (tpa), ultimately
reaching 15,000 tpa in five years, from a
single shift.

The second quarter was a particularly busy time for lube manufacturers, as we
saw them expand their capacity in India, the Middle East, Africa and Germany.

Mott MacDonald provided both project
oversight and design consultancy. The
main time and labor saving technology is
an Automatic Batch Blending (ABB) system
developed by Leroux & Lotz of France.
“The new facility has been in the
pipeline for the past two to three years. The
overall build project took 18 months, from
start to finish,”said Mahmoud-Al-Theraawi,
CEO of MAG Lubricants.
Plant capacity is 60,000 metric tons per
year for automotive, industrial andmarine
lubricants production, according toWilson
Zoueini, business development director.
