T
oTAL SA, oNE oF THE WoRLD’S LARGEST
integrated oil and gas companies, located in Paris, recently
opened a state-of-the-art Technical Centre for Asia Pacific
(TCAP) in Mumbai. The new facility’s objectives include
providing value-added technical support to partners and
customers, adapting existing products and working with Total
SA’s research and design facility in France to develop new products for the
region.
TCAP reinforces the current R&D efforts of the ToTAL Centre de
Recherche de Solaize (CReS) located in France, but also has its own focus,
which includes the following:
Lubricants, bitumen, fuel additives and special fluids.
New product development to meet Asian requirements.
Analytical research services, being the first analytical and
chemical (ANAC) lab outside Europe.
F&L Asia recently interviewed TCAP Project Leader olivier
Denizart. Denizart became Total’s specialties business coordinator
in 2011. As TCAP project leader, his scope of responsibilities includes
managing a team of highly skilled engineers and technicians who will be
involved in the product development of lubricants, bitumen, fuel additives
and special fluids.
Denizart joined Total Lubricants in 2002 as senior products engineer,
where his scope of work included management and development of
transmission lubricants for the international division, and management
and analysis of markets and manufacturers’ needs, particularly in China
and the rest of Asia. From 2007-2010, he was the global manager for the
development of lubricants for Renault-Nissan and was also involved in
development programs in key Asian markets, such as India and China.
Q
You recently opened TCAP in Mumbai. What led to this expansion?
Why India in particular?
A
TCAP reflects ToTAL’s recognition of the rapidly developing Asian
markets, especially India and China. The Asia-Pacific market for ToTAL’s
lubricants is strong, as a third of the company’s volumes is sold in this
region. With TCAP’s presence, it brings ToTAL closer to our customers

O l i v i e r
Denizart。

A
A
A
