Yuchai launches Thailand plant, marking a new milestone in global expansion
Yuchai Power System (Thailand) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd., officially commenced operations in Samut Prakan, marking a significant leap in the company’s globalization strategy. This new facility, the first overseas plant for Yuchai, signals a strong commitment to expanding its presence in Southeast Asia.
Samut Prakan is a province located in central Thailand, just southeast of the capital city Bangkok. It is part of the Bangkok Metropolitan Region and is situated along the Gulf of Thailand. The province is known for its industrial areas, including many factories and production facilities, and it plays a significant role in Thailand’s manufacturing sector.
The Thailand plant will primarily focus on producing diesel, gas, and clean-energy engines, with the K08, S06, and S04 series among the initial products. As part of Yuchai’s broader vision, this plant will also pave the way for the production of the 2-11L engine series.
The launch event saw attendance from key industry figures, including representatives from the Chinese Embassy’s Economic and Commercial Office in Thailand. This expansion is expected to drive Yuchai’s growth in Southeast Asia, where the company has already established a solid footprint over the past decades. Notably, Yuchai’s export volume to ASEAN countries has surged from just 400 units in 2004 to over 20,000 units annually. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a regional intergovernmental organisation comprising 10 Southeast Asian countries.
In addition to its Thailand operations, Yuchai is planning further expansion with new factories in Vietnam and strategic partnerships in Europe and the Middle East. These efforts are part of Yuchai’s strategy to enhance its competitiveness and strengthen its position in global markets.
Li Hanyang, chairman of Yuchai, emphasised that the company aims to integrate advanced manufacturing techniques, including intelligent digital and green technologies, at the Thailand facility. This aligns with broader initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative and the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area, positioning Yuchai for continued growth in the global market.
