Volkswagen Group to launch affordable all-electric vehicles for Europe

Volkswagen Group has announced a significant project aimed at providing all-electric entry-level mobility vehicles priced around EUR20,000 (USD21,663). This initiative underscores the company’s commitment to making electromobility accessible to a broader audience in Europe, with a world premiere planned for 2027.

Oliver Blume, CEO of Volkswagen Group, emphasised the company’s legacy of providing affordable mobility solutions. “Generations of people associate the strong brands of the Volkswagen Group with their first car—and with affordable mobility. We continue to assume this social responsibility to this day,” said Blume. The project, labeled “From Europe, for Europe,” aims to support European industrial policy and cater to European customers’ needs.

Innovative and cost-effective electric vehicles

Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand and head of the Core brand group, highlighted the company’s goal of delivering high-quality electric vehicles despite rising costs. “Our brand promise is: electromobility for all. This promise is now being fulfilled in the Brand Group Core,” Schäfer noted. The vehicles will set new standards in technology, design, quality, and customer experience within the entry-level segment.

Volkswagen plans to rely heavily on localised production within Europe, which will reduce long transport routes for components and, consequently, CO2 emissions. This initiative is part of Volkswagen’s broader strategy to promote sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Future models and production plans

By the end of 2025, Volkswagen’s Brand Group Core will introduce the “Electric Urban Car Family,” which includes electric cars priced under EUR25,000 (USD27,079). These will feature two new compact cars from VW and CUPRA and two small SUVs from Škoda and VW, all manufactured in Spain. The new project for EUR20,000 electric vehicles represents the next step in Volkswagen’s effort to expand its electric vehicle offerings.
