VinFast to launch 100,000 EV charging stations in Indonesia
V-GREEN and Prime Group have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a robust electric vehicle (EV) charging network in Indonesia. This collaboration aims to develop approximately 100,000 VinFast EV charging stations within the next three years, representing an investment of up to USD1.2 billion.
The partnership will prioritise key urban centres, including Jakarta, Surabaya, and Bali, before expanding to other regions. The initiative aligns with the increasing adoption of EVs in Indonesia and leverages VinFast’s diverse range of urban electric vehicles. Construction of the charging stations is set to begin in January 2025, with several operational sites expected within the year.
Prime Group, a UAE-based diversified conglomerate, will arrange funding for the project, drawing on its extensive financial network and expertise across various industries. Meanwhile, V-GREEN will oversee the market research, site selection, and operation of the charging stations to meet the growing demand for EV infrastructure in Indonesia.
Tamer Wagih Salem, chairman of Prime Group, expressed confidence in the partnership, stating, “Leveraging our expertise across various industries, we are proud to partner with V-GREEN to capitalise on the immense potential of Indonesia’s green transportation sector as one of Southeast Asia’s most promising markets. We are confident that this collaboration, fueled by V-GREEN’s strong reputation and execution capabilities, will not only benefit both companies but also significantly contribute to the growth of Southeast Asia’s electric vehicle market. This partnership with V-GREEN will take us to explore more opportunities globally, starting with Indonesia then expanding to the Middle East, Europe, the United Kingdom and the United States.”
Nguyen Thanh Duong, CEO of V-GREEN, shared: “Partnering with a strategic Middle Eastern partner opens up exciting new opportunities for V-GREEN to expand our global electric vehicle charging network. Together, we will create a comprehensive electric vehicle ecosystem, reducing environmental impact and enhancing quality of life. This collaboration will yield significant benefits for both our companies, consumers, and the community. Together with VinFast and GSM, we will strongly promote the “For a Green Future” campaign in Indonesia.”
Supporting VinFast’s global ambitions
V-GREEN, established by VinFast’s founder Pham Nhat Vuong, focuses on EV infrastructure development as a critical component of VinFast’s global expansion strategy. Since entering the Indonesian market, VinFast has delivered two EV models—the VF e34 and VF 5—and initiated construction of an assembly plant in Subang, West Java, to bolster its production capacity.
This MoU marks a significant milestone for V-GREEN and Prime Group in fostering sustainable mobility and reinforcing VinFast’s presence in Southeast Asia’s dynamic EV market.
