Valvoline GF-7 oils deliver next-gen engine protection
Valvoline Global Operations has launched a new line of passenger car motor oils across the U.S. and Canada that not only meet but exceed the updated ILSAC GF-7 specification.
A long-standing contributor to the evolution of global engine oil standards, Valvoline has reaffirmed its technical leadership by offering synthetic formulations that already meet the stringent performance criteria under GF-7. The company’s state-of-the-art engine lab in Ashland, Kentucky, U.S.A., is the only one of its kind operated by a major lubricant brand, playing a key role in shaping industry benchmarks every five to seven years.
Dr. Michael Warholic, senior global technology director, said the new standards reflect the demands of modern mobility, where engines work harder and faster. He noted that Valvoline’s oils are engineered not only to optimise performance but also to extend engine life well into the future.
The latest ILSAC GF-7 compliant oils, backed by more than 500,000 miles of engine testing, provide superior protection against wear, friction, heat, and deposits. This ensures enhanced reliability under high-stress conditions and better overall vehicle performance.
The GF-7 standards maintain the “A” and “B” designations introduced under ILSAC GF-6. GF-7A applies to SAE 0W-20 and heavier grades and is fully backward compatible with previous standards, while GF-7B covers SAE 0W-16 oils and is backward compatible with GF-6B. Valvoline’s GF-7A products will carry the API “Starburst” symbol, while GF-7B oils will feature the API “Shield.”
Valvoline, part of Aramco since its acquisition, continues to operate in more than 140 countries and provides solutions for all vehicle types, including electric and hybrid powertrains. With the GF-7 release, the company positions itself firmly at the forefront of next-generation engine oil technology.
