TotalEnergies launches engine oil recycling in Vietnam

TotalEnergies Marketing Vietnam and Cao Gia Quy Environment Company have signed a partnership contract for the collection and recycling of waste engine oil in Vietnam.

Under this partnership, Cao Gia Quy will collect waste engine oil from TotalEnergies Vietnam’s network of Quartz Auto Services and Hi-Perf Moto Services workshops as well as B2B commercial customers. With a nationwide collection network and a capacity of more than 23,000 tonnes per year, Cao Gia Quy Environment Company has been a leader in recycling waste oil into re-refined base oil since 2014.

Founded in Vietnam, Cao Gia Quy Environment Company is recognised as the country’s largest waste oil recycling company. The firm plays a vital role in Vietnam’s efforts to transition toward a circular economy. Its operations include a comprehensive waste oil collection infrastructure, supported by environmentally sound re-refining technologies that convert used lubricants into valuable base oils. The company’s long-standing expertise and national footprint make it an ideal partner for multinationals seeking to align with local environmental compliance requirements and sustainability objectives.

The partnership fulfils TotalEnergies Marketing Vietnam’s duties under the new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations in Vietnam, which require lubricant companies to either recycle a minimum of 15% of the engine oil volume they manufacture or import into Vietnam, or make a financial contribution to the Vietnam Environment Protection Fund.

Mehmet Celepoglu, vice president – Oceania & South-East Asia of TotalEnergies Marketing Asia Pacific Middle East, stated:  “We are delighted that TotalEnergies is the first lubricants company to partner with Vietnam’s largest waste oil recycling company, Cao Gia Quy Environment Company, under the country’s new EPR regulations. Beyond this partnership, we are also exploring further collaborations in line with our net zero ambition by 2050 together with the society.”

This recycling partnership supports the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal No. 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), which aims to ensure sustainable use of resources and reduce waste generation through prevention, recycling, and reuse. It also contributes to SDG No. 13 (Climate Action), by raising awareness around climate mitigation and promoting the professional handling of used oil among customers and end-users.
