TotalEnergies buys into Spain EV charging market through Wenea acquisition
TotalEnergies is accelerating its move into electric vehicle charging in Spain through a deal with local operator Wenea to acquire 200 existing ultra-fast charging sites.
The purchased stations blanket highways and urban areas nationwide and run fully on renewable energy. TotalEnergies and Wenea now aim to jointly invest in building additional high-power charging hubs.
“Spain has rapidly growing EV adoption, making it a key growth area for charging infrastructure,” said Mathieu Soulas, TotalEnergies senior VP of New Mobilities and Marketing.
With over 1,200 chargers currently, Wenea leads the Spanish independent charging market. The partnership fuses Wenea’s established position with TotalEnergies’ global scale and capabilities.
Expansion plans target upwards of 1,000 new premium charging sites for TotalEnergies in Europe by 2028. Just weeks ago, the firm won a 1,100 charger tender in Germany amid a broader push into ultra-fast charging.
The timely deal in Spain promises robust charging provision for the country’s expanding electric fleet. It also augments TotalEnergies’ extensive existing energy supply footprint locally across gas, power and solar.
