Technip Energies and Enerkem partner for waste-to-biofuels innovation
Technip Energies, a global leader in engineering and technology for the energy transition based in Paris, France, and Enerkem, a pioneer in waste-to-biofuels and circular chemicals technology based in Montreal, Canada, have announced a strategic partnership. This collaboration aims to accelerate the deployment of Enerkem’s innovative technology platform, which transforms non-recyclable waste materials into biofuels and circular chemical products.
Enerkem’s technology is a game-changer in the field of sustainable energy. It specialises in gasification technology that converts waste into valuable resources. Since 2016, Enerkem has been operating a commercial demonstration scale facility in Alberta, Canada, and is currently involved in developing new commercial-scale waste-to-methanol facilities in Canada and Europe.
Technip Energies, with its extensive expertise in engineering, technology integration, and project delivery, will support projects developed by Enerkem. This partnership is expected to enhance Enerkem’s project delivery capacity and speed, optimising design elements and industrialising the approach for future projects.
Enerkem plans to establish a development company (DevCo) to acquire sites and secure permits for methanol biorefinery designs. This initiative aligns with the company’s commitment to accelerating biofuels technology deployment and contributing to a sustainable future.
Dominique Boies, CEO of Enerkem, and Bhaskar Patel, SVP Sustainable Fuels, Chemicals, and Circularity of Technip Energies, have expressed their enthusiasm for this collaboration. They believe that this partnership will play a crucial role in advancing the biofuels industry and promoting sustainable energy solutions.
