Suzuki and Toyota expand partnership to launch electric SUV

In a significant move towards sustainable mobility, Suzuki Motor Corporation and Toyota Motor Corporation have announced plans to deepen their collaboration in the development of electrified vehicles. The partnership will soon introduce a battery electric vehicle (BEV) SUV model developed by Suzuki, marking the first BEV launched as part of their original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement.

Set to be manufactured at Suzuki Motor Gujarat in India starting in the spring of 2025, this new BEV SUV will provide consumers with a fully electric, versatile option within the fast-growing SUV segment. Designed with a range of features including ample cruising range, a spacious cabin, and four-wheel drive (4WD) capability, the vehicle will deliver both power and comfort for urban and off-road driving.

The BEV SUV will draw on technology jointly developed by Suzuki, Toyota, and Daihatsu, leveraging each company’s strengths to support a multi-pathway approach toward a carbon-neutral society. This initiative follows years of collaborative work between Suzuki and Toyota, with roots going back to 2016, expanding shared production and vehicle supply in markets across Japan, India, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

Suzuki’s President Toshihiro Suzuki expressed gratitude for the partnership, emphasising its importance in addressing social issues and advancing carbon neutrality. Toyota President Koji Sato noted that the project aligns with Toyota’s Beyond Zero commitment to reducing environmental impact while delivering value that benefits both society and future generations.
