Summit and Infinium partner to expand eFuels production
Summit Carbon Solutions and Infinium, a leading electrofuels (eFuels) producer, have announced a strategic partnership to supply up to 670,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide (COโ) annually for a proposed eFuels facility in North or South Dakota.
Through Summitโs carbon capture and pipeline network, Infinium will gain access to a reliable COโ supply, essential for producing ultra-low carbon eFuels. These synthetic fuels, created by combining captured COโ with green hydrogen, are designed for use in aviation, shipping, and heavy transport, expanding domestic energy production and increasing the availability of sustainable fuels for both U.S. and international markets.
“This partnership demonstrates how CO2 infrastructure drives energy independence and enables new markets for ethanol producers, farmers, and rural communities,” said Lee Blank, CEO of Summit Carbon Solutions. “CO2 is a commodity with growing value, and Infinium’s eFuels technology is an important piece of the puzzle. By providing a reliable CO2 supply, we’re helping unlock opportunities that support domestic energy production and economic growth.”
Economic and environmental benefits
The proposed Infinium eFuels facility in the Midwest is expected to:
- Drive significant investment in state and local economies
- Create high-paying skilled jobs
- Support hundreds of additional roles in related industries
- Offer new market opportunities for US ethanol producers and farmers
Robert Schuetzle, CEO of Infinium, added: “As demand for eFuels continues to rise, it is essential to secure reliable and scalable CO2 sources. Summit’s infrastructure would supply the CO2 needed to scale production and advance eFuels as a key part of America’s energy future.”
