ABOUT THE AUTHOR
An Economics graduate from the University of the Philippines, Vicky fulfilled her life-long dream of becoming a journalist after working in the academe and government sectors for a number of years in the Philippines. She was admitted to the graduate degree program of the University of California, Berkeley, in the United States, and obtained her Master's in Journalism in 1983. Following this, she worked for The Oil Daily newspaper in Washington, D.C., at the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt, in Cairo, The Washington Post, in Washington, D.C., and as a freelancer for various U.S. publications.
In 1992, she returned to Asia. With her experience covering the oil and gas industry in North America and the Middle East, she started her own publication. Today, F&L Asia publishes the only daily newsletter for the fuels and lubricants industry, F+L Daily, as well as F+L Magazine, available in print, digital format and online, a monthly Executive Briefing, a monthly Podcast, and a Lube Map, available in print and online. You can now read all of F&L Asia's publications via your mobile app, which can be downloaded from either Google Play (Android version) or Apple Store (iOS version).
In 1995, she launched the first annual event for the fuels and lubricants industries in the region, in Singapore. Today, F+L Week is an iconic brand and an industry institution.
With her passion for lubricants, she got together with Steve Puckett, executive chairman of TRI-ZEN International, to found the Asian Lubricant Manufacturers Union (ALMU) in Singapore in November 2017. ALMU, which was created to fill a void in the region, the fastest growing and largest lubricants market in the world, was officially launched in March 2018 at the Four Seasons Macao during F+L Week 2018. Later renamed the Asian Lubricants Industry Association, ALIA serves as the voice for the lubricants industry in Asia to help its members prepare for the energy transition that will be game changing and potentially an existential challenge.
She is a strong advocate of truth in journalism, the environment, and human rights.
