Sasol launches lower carbon wax for packaging industry

Sasol Chemicals has expanded its sustainable product offerings with the introduction of SASOLWAX LC100, a new industrial wax grade designed for the adhesive packaging industry. This innovative product boasts a 35% lower carbon footprint compared to traditional waxes, aligning with Sasol’s commitment to environmental sustainability without compromising on performance.

SASOLWAX LC100 offers the same exceptional properties and performance benefits as Sasol’s industry-standard SASOLWAX H1. These include enabling odorless, crystal-clear hot melt adhesive (HMA) formulations when combined with metallocene polymers, thanks to its low viscosity, high crystallinity, and stability. The wax allows for smoother and thinner adhesive applications, resulting in more box closures with less adhesive per closure. It also supports high-speed packaging lines with fast set times and provides improved durability and outstanding thermal stability, boosting operational efficiency for HMA manufacturers.

The introduction of SASOLWAX LC100 follows the recent launch of SASOBIT LC, Sasol’s lower carbon solution for the asphalt industry. Both products offer drop-in alternatives to existing benchmark grades, enabling customers to significantly reduce their Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining high performance.

“With a 35% reduction in carbon footprint without compromising on quality, our lower carbon product range allows customers to significantly improve their sustainability performance while meeting the highest industry standards,” said Dirk Uys, vice president of Sales. “We are committed to expanding this significant improvement in the PCF to more markets and applications, enabling customers across other industries to benefit from our sustainable solutions.”

Sasol’s methodology for calculating the PCFs of its Gas-to-Liquid (GTL) Fischer-Tropsch (FT) wax value chain has undergone rigorous third-party verification and complies with the ISO 14067 international standard. This ensures that customers can confidently choose Sasol’s sustainable wax solutions as drop-in alternatives to reduce their Scope 3 emissions.
