S-OIL completes digital transformation project, builds intelligent factory

S-OIL Corp. has announced the completion of a major digital transformation project aimed at converting its Onsan plant into a state-of-the-art intelligent factory. This significant endeavour, known as the S-imoms (S-OIL Integrated Manufacturing Operation Management System) project, involved a substantial investment of KRW25.5 billion (USD18.3 million) over three years and the collaboration of more than 120 experts from 13 specialised companies and around 100 internal S-OIL personnel.

Operational Efficiency and Safety: The S-imoms project has introduced an integrated platform that unifies previously disparate systems related to production, maintenance, and safety. This integration allows for real-time diagnostics and proactive maintenance strategies, leveraging AI technology to optimise operations and detect potential issues before they become critical.

Digital Advancements: The project has fully digitised various operational aspects, including the issuance of work permits, shift work logs, and on-site inspection sheets. These digital enhancements improve work efficiency and reduce accident risks by automating processes and providing intuitive visualisations and dashboard screens for workers.

Safety enhancements with advanced technology

Mobile CCTV and Drones: To bolster safety, S-OIL has implemented mobile CCTV systems and drone technology. The mobile CCTV systems provide real-time monitoring and risk management across multiple work sites, while drones equipped with high-resolution cameras and sensors perform inspections in high-risk or hard-to-reach areas, minimising danger to workers.

S-Mustering System: This system monitors the real-time location and status of field workers, ensuring rapid response and evacuation during emergencies. It enhances the safety framework by ensuring the well-being of personnel and facilitating quick action when necessary.

S-OIL anticipates that the S-imoms project will yield an annual economic benefit in excess of  KRW20 billion (USD14.4 million) through enhanced operational efficiencies and business innovations. The company is committed to continuous digital innovation to improve working conditions and maintain safety standards, positioning itself as a leader in leveraging Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies in the energy sector.
