Power2X Rotterdam eFuels facility to produce 250,000 tonnes of SAF

Power2X has announced a significant collaboration with Honeywell to implement its methanol-to-jet processing technology, eFining™, at the upcoming eFuels Rotterdam project. This state-of-the-art facility will produce over 250,000 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) annually, making it a pivotal development in Europe’s energy transition and decarbonisation efforts.

The facility, situated at the Port of Rotterdam, will convert locally produced green hydrogen and imported green methanol into eSAF and other low-carbon fuels. Honeywell’s eFining technology enables efficient methanol conversion, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 88% compared to conventional jet fuel. The project is aligned with Europe’s ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation, which mandates increased use of sustainable aviation fuels from 2030.

“Accelerating the energy transition requires developing next-generation energy assets at an industrial scale and deploying cutting-edge technology to unlock new value chains, delivering clean energy where it’s most needed,” said Occo Roelofsen, CEO of Power 2X. “Our collaboration with Honeywell on eFuels Rotterdam marks a significant step forward in producing Sustainable Aviation Fuels in the heart of Europe.”

“The world needs a greater supply of sustainable aviation fuel in order to help decarbonize the aviation sector,” said Barry Glickman, vice president and general manager of Sustainable Technology Solutions at Honeywell. “Honeywell’s eFining technology uses hydrogen and carbon dioxide, two abundant, low carbon feedstocks, to produce SAF that helps airlines meet ambitious European fuel mandates.”

The project underlines Power2X’s leadership in clean energy solutions and Honeywell’s role as a global pioneer in sustainable technologies, collectively advancing Europe’s ambition for a greener aviation sector.
