PLI CEO Amir Hamzah to lead Icon Offshore

Amir Hamzah Azizan, who is currently chief executive officer (CEO) of Petronas Lubricants International Sdn Bhd (PLI), has been appointed managing director of Icon Offshore Sdn Bhd, Malaysia’s offshore support vessel provider and one of Southeast’s largest, effective March 1, 2016.

Amir Hamzah, who is also vice-president of the lubricants business of Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) and also sits on the board of South Africa’s Engen Petroleum Ltd., will succeed Jamal Yusof, whose appointment will expire on Nov. 15.

Amir Hamzah has 26 years of experience in the oil and gas and marine logistics sectors, having served as CEO of Petronas Dagangan Bhd. and Malaysia International Shipping Corp. (MISC).

Meanwhile, Capt. Hassan Ali, who assumed the leadership of Icon Offshore during the recent leave of its outgoing CEO has been appointed chief operating officer (COO). Hassan, who is currently deputy CEO and chief corporate officer, will take over this new post effective Nov. 19. Yusof, who is the current CEO and COO, took a leave of absence from his post in April to assist the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in its investigations.

Icon Offshore is 40% owned by Ekuiti Nasional Bhd, a corporate investment arm of Yayasan Ekuiti Nasional which specializes in growth stage investments in medium to large sized companies.
