Pilot Chemical acquires ATRP Solutions

Pilot Chemical Co., based in Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.A., has purchased ATRP Solutions, Inc., which is located in Pittsburgh, Penn., U.S.A. The acquisition expands Pilot’s proprietary technologies in the oil field chemicals, lubricant additives and paints and coatings markets.

ATRP brings with it a highly trained staff of research scientists and a patent portfolio demonstrating years of ingenuity.

“The acquisition of ATRP is an important step to ensure continued innovation at Pilot,” said Mike Scott, president of Pilot Chemical.

“We are excited to become part of a highly regarded organization like Pilot,” said Patrick McCarthy, CEO of ATRP. “Having Pilot’s support and resources will allow our team to improve upon its track record of technological discovery.”

Pilot’s purchase of ATRP follows its July 2016 acquisition of Liquid Minerals Group, Inc., based in New Waverly, Texas, U.S.A.

ATRP Solutions, which was spun out of Carnegie Mellon University in 20016, is a world-leader in the development, manufacturing and commercialisation of polymers via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), a revolutionary process for designing and building highly-engineered intelligent ingredients that improve products used in the oilfield chemicals and cosmetic markets.

The company has a portfolio of 21 granted patents, with another 55 patent applications still pending.
