PETRONAS and Iceotope launch data centre liquid cooling partnership
PETRONAS Lubricants International (PLI), global lubricants arm of PETRONAS based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, has announced a groundbreaking collaboration with Iceotope, a leader in precision liquid cooling technology based in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, United Kingdom. This partnership aims to develop advanced thermal management solutions for data centres, edge computing facilities, and blockchain operations, focusing on enhancing efficiency while reducing carbon emissions and water usage.
The collaboration leverages the combined expertise of both companies in thermal management, driving research and innovation to deliver new liquid cooling technologies tailored to the evolving needs of the digital infrastructure sector. Hezlinn Idris, managing director and Group CEO of PLI, emphasised the significance of this partnership in expanding PLI’s impact beyond the automotive sector.
David Craig, CEO of Iceotope, highlighted the environmental benefits of precision liquid cooling, which allows data centres to operate efficiently without compromising performance or sustainability. This partnership underscores a shared commitment to innovative and responsible cooling solutions.
In conjunction with this partnership, PLI has introduced PETRONAS Iona Tera, a new liquid coolant designed specifically for data centres. This product is part of the PETRONAS Iona range, initially developed for electric vehicles, and represents nearly two years of dedicated research and development.
