Petrolimex to build network of convenience stores at fuel retail outlets

Vietnam National Petroleum Group or Petrolimex plans to build a convenience-store chain across its fuel retail network in more than 5,000 locations across Vietnam.

“Our strategy partner JX Nippon Oil will support us to set up the chain in the most optimal way,” a Petrolimex representative was quoted in a local news report.

Petrolimex has tested the concept with its P-Mart in Hanoi’s Hoai Duc district. Currently, the store only sells Petrolimex-branded petroleum products such as lubricants and a limited range of snacks and beverages. This will be expanded to 1,500 to 2,000 products, he said.

Petrolimex still has not made an official announcement regarding its plan.

Petrolimex will compete with more established players such as Circle K, 7-Eleven, VinMart + and FamilyMart, in the domestic market. None of these c-store brands are affiliated with service stations.
