Oliver Stratmann to become LANXESS CFO in September 2023

German specialty chemicals firm LANXESS is set to welcome Oliver Stratmann as its new chief financial officer (CFO) starting September 1, 2023. This decision follows Michael Pontzen’s request for an early termination of his CFO role at LANXESS, effective August 31, 2023. Pontzen will transition to a CFO position at a company outside of Germany.

Having been a part of LANXESS since 2004, Pontzen held multiple managerial roles within the finance sector before his appointment to the Board of Management in 2015. The Supervisory Board and the entire Board of Management expressed their gratitude for Pontzen’s contributions throughout his tenure. Dr. Matthias Wolfgruber, chairman of the Supervisory Board of LANXESS, conveyed regret over Pontzen’s decision but wished him success in his forthcoming endeavors.

Oliver Stratmann, who has been with LANXESS since 2004, has held various management positions in the finance department, notably leading the Treasury & Investor Relations Department since 2015. In this capacity, Stratmann played a pivotal role in structuring the financing of LANXESS’s major acquisitions and overseeing its capital market communications. Prior to joining LANXESS, Stratmann was associated with Celanese AG and holds a degree in economics.

Dr. Matthias Wolfgruber expressed confidence in Stratmann’s capabilities, emphasising his extensive capital market experience and financial acumen. LANXESS CEO, Matthias Zachert, also welcomed Stratmann to the Board of Management, highlighting the importance of having a seasoned colleague during challenging times in the chemical industry.
