Huawei Debuts Latest Smart PV Solutions in South Korea at 2020 Green Energy Expo

DAEGU, South Korea, July 29, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — As a global leader in Smart PV solution provider, Huawei showcased its latest Smart PV solutions at the largest and most influential solar energy exhibition in South Korea, the 16th International Green Energy Expo. With the theme of AI BOOST FusionSolar for Optimal LCOE, Huawei focused on displaying FusionSolar’s latest solutions for commercial, distributed and residential use. The cross-border integration of ICT technology, AI technology and photovoltaic technology brings customers higher power generation, smarter operation and maintenance, and safer and more reliable customer value.

Tang Minghuang, Director of Digital Power for South Korea, Huawei, said: ‘During this year’s Green Energy Expo, our customers showed great interest in our new products and solutions. With the rapid development of AI, 5G, big data and other technologies, the era of intelligence has just started. The energy industry will be restructured and re-defined. In the future, Huawei will continue to contribute towards the process of digitalization, create values for customers, and enable partners leading this intelligent era.’

AI+ Benefits, Higher Yields with New Technologies

By the end of 2019, Huawei’s Smart PV solutions already have more than 118GW shipments worldwide and have been widely used in major markets such as Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America. As the largest inverter supplier from 2015 to 2019 globally for 5 consecutive years, Huawei’s FusionSolar solutions have industry-leading conversion efficiency, 99.996% availability with TÃœV certification. It also incorporates AI technology on the AC and DC side, such as the Smart DC System (SDS) algorithm and the grid-tied algorithm. Without any increase of hardware investment, this could fully release the potential of each string in order to increase the electricity yields and significantly improve the efficiency of O&M, which ultimately bring values to our customers.

AI+ Protection, Active Safety for Users

Newly Upgraded SUN2000-100KTL-M1

This year Huawei also brought an upgraded version of the SUN2000-100KTL-M1, which not only provides better ROI and experience, but upgraded its AFCI (arc-fault circuit interrupters) function reaching a new safety level. Distributed PV systems are usually installed closer to the end-users, for example on the rooftop of a home or factory, so it is critical to protect the community from fire hazards.

Without any protection, distributed PV system often is affected by DC arcing due to loose component connectors and damaged insulated cables. The DC arcing will generate high temperatures, which can sometimes reach 3000 degrees Celsius, thus easily leads to fire and safety concerns. With Huawei AI Boost intelligent AFCI enabled system, the arcing could be quickly identified and cut off within 2.5 seconds. Equipped with AI technologies, Huawei’s AFCI feature could continue self-learning from the database of millions of arcs’ features and provides ultimate safety.

AI+ O&M, Revolutionize Maintenance

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 and lack of O&M personnel on-site, the operation and maintenance of PV power plants have become a huge concern in the industry. Huawei’s FusionSolar Smart PV Management System and APP provide end-to-end health analysis of the power plant. Within one screen, one could manage the whole power plant with 0.5% high-precision string-level monitoring, and helps customers monitor all the key operation data remotely. Smart I-V Curve Diagnosis helps to assess the whole plant remotely to string level and generates a full report within 15 minutes. The self-learning AI algorithm also quickly identifies 14 types of faults without the need for O&M personnel to be on-site, making the maintenance easy and cost-effective.

In the future, the accelerated investment in renewable energy by the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) will triple South Korea’s solar and wind power generation capacity from the current 12.7GW to 42.7GW by the end of 2025. South Korea is expected to increase its electricity supply from renewable energy sources to 20% by 2030 and 35% by 2040. For the first time in the industry, Huawei has introduced an AI self-learning algorithm for impedance reshaping, fused with dynamic damping adaptation algorithms, intelligent series compensation adaptive algorithms, active harmonic suppression algorithms and other leading grid-connecting algorithms, in order to proactively identify the electrical features of a PV plant and automatically adjust the grid-tied algorithm to match the power grid. Leading PV plants from ‘adapting to the grid’ to ‘supporting the grid’. With continuous R&D investment, Huawei will continue its technological innovation and help customers ride the waves and rise to the fore in the Smart PV journey.
