CHIMEI Launches Clean & Green Power Plant to Promote Eco-Friendly Values and Co-Existence with Nature
TAIPEI, Aug. 12, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — CHIMEI Corp., the world’s largest vendor of ABS resins, PMMA resins and optical sheets, today held the opening ceremony of the CHIMEI Green Energy Park, a 15 MW solar power plant set amid beautiful natural surroundings in Shanhua District, Tainan City, Taiwan.
Together with our existing rooftop solar installations, this new park brings CHIMEI’s total solar power output to 22 MW, which is equivalent to the average annual power consumption of 8,100 households
“The creation of the CHIMEI Green Energy Park will allow us to contribute toward the development of low-carbon cities and the renewable energy industry, marking a leap forward in CHIMEI’s sustainability commitment,” said Hsu Chun-hua, Chairman of CHIMEI Corp., addressing attendees of the opening ceremony.
“Investing in green energy is by no means a CSR gimmick; it is an investment in CHIMEI’s sustainable competitiveness. CHIMEI Green Energy Park will communicate CHIMEI’s Clean & Green vision for the next 60 years, as we invest more in green innovation, and incorporate Clean and Green ideas into every aspect of our operations.”
CHIMEI transformed the previously idle factory lot by installing ground-mounted solar panels with total potential energy generation of 20 million kWh per year, while preserving the more-than 22,000 trees already on the lot. The result is a green energy park that balances industrial development, beautiful views, a thriving ecosystem, and a lush forest. The park’s green power generation equates to 12,000 metric tons in annual carbon emissions reduction.
“This park is the culmination of CHIMEI’s efforts in green construction, promoting the circular economy, and ecological conservation,” said Chao Lin-yu, President of CHIMEI Corp. “Together with our existing rooftop solar installations, this new park brings CHIMEI’s total solar power output to 22 MW, which is equivalent to the average annual power consumption of 8,100 households.”
The company also built CHIMEI Clean & Green House in the new park. Constructed with recycled building materials, the house features exhibits introducing topics related to green energy and tree science.
Notable attendees of the opening ceremony included Mayor of Tainan Huang Wei-cher, Director-General of the Bureau of Energy Yu Cheng-wei, Director-General of the Industrial Development Bureau Leu Jang-hwa, heads of Taiwan Power Co. and other units, and representatives from AU Optronics, which helped build the plant.
