Neste appoints Mercedes Alonso as EVP of Renewable Polymers and Chemicals

Mercedes Alonso has been appointed as executive vice president for Renewable Polymers and Chemicals of Finland’s Neste Corporation and member of the Neste Executive Committee. She will join Neste on September 2019, at the latest, and will report to President and CEO Peter Vanacker. She will also be the managing director of Neste Germany GmbH.

Mercedes Alonso will transfer to Neste from LyondellBasell, where she is currently marketing director of Advanced Polymer Solutions (APS), Europe. Prior to LyondellBasell, she also worked at Dow and DACH in various positions.

Fluent in English, Spanish, German and French, Alonso graduated with an Honors Master’s Degree in Analytical/Inorganic Chemistry at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 1990. She was a  research associate at Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology (ICT) in Germany in 1991 and earned a Specialist Degree in “Physiochemical analysis of air contaminants” from the Universidad Complutense in 1991.

Her broad international experience from the polymers industry, and multicultural leadership skills are valuable assets in executing Neste’s growth strategy,” says Vanacker.
