Neste appoints Jori Sahlsten as EVP of Oil Products

Neste Corporation has appointed Jori Sahlsten as executive vice president of Oil Products and a member of the Neste Leadership Team, effective immediately. Sahlsten, who previously served as senior vice president, Refining, Oil Products, will now oversee Neste’s Oil Products business. He will report directly to Neste President and CEO Heikki Malinen.

Markku Korvenranta will continue in his role as executive vice president, chief operating officer (COO), focusing on driving Neste’s performance improvement programme.

“I am pleased to welcome Jori to lead our Oil Products business area and strengthen our leadership team with his solid track record in leading industrial operations in various businesses. Markku will focus on leading the COO office and driving Neste’s performance improvement program. I wish both Jori and Markku best of luck in their new roles,” says Malinen.

Sahlsten, a Master of Science in Paper Technology from Helsinki University of Technology, has held various leadership roles within Neste, HKScan Finland, and Metsä Tissue Oyj, bringing extensive experience in industrial operations and refining. He joined Neste in 2016 as operations director, Oil Products.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Sahlsten commented, “I am excited to lead Oil Products and its business performance. As a team, we will focus on improving operational efficiency, safety, and reliability.”

In related news, Hanna van Luijk has been appointed Site Director of Neste’s Rotterdam refinery. She joined Neste in November 2023 and has been focusing on key internal and strategic growth projects since then. Prior to joining Neste she has held various operations and manufacturing positions at leading industrial companies.

The company is the world’s leading producer of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel, with a mission to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 20 million tonnes annually by 2030.

Neste’s Porvoo oil refinery is set to become Europe’s most sustainable refinery, aligning with the company’s target of achieving carbon-neutral production by 2035. Neste also plans to reduce the carbon intensity of its sold products by 50% by 2040.
