Motul acquires Chem Arrow to strengthen industrial growth in N. America

Motul, based in Aubervilliers, France, has announced the acquisition of Chem Arrow Corp, a move aimed at expanding its market reach and enhancing its industrial product portfolio. Chem Arrow, headquartered in California, specialises in metalworking fluids, industrial cleaners, and lubricants for specific applications, particularly in the HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) sector.

Motul’s ambition to achieve EUR200 million (USD216 million) in revenue by 2030 aligns with its focus on strategic acquisitions in key markets and sectors. The company’s strengthened presence in North America through Chem Arrow will accelerate its industrial growth, especially in sustainable solutions for lubricants and metalworking fluids.

With this acquisition, MotulTech—Motul’s industrial division—aims to double its business and acquire essential technologies that strengthen its position in the HVAC market. Chem Arrow’s product offerings include low to zero VOC fin stamping and bending fluids, adding environmental benefits to Motul’s sustainable solutions.

“This is such an exciting opportunity for our distributors, customers, and employees. It will enable us to fully harness our growth potential. Motul’s global reach will significantly enhance Chem Arrow’s ability to expand into new markets, providing us with a broader international footprint. Additionally, our research and development capabilities will be further strengthened by access to strategically located manufacturing facilities across Asia, Europe, India, Africa and South America,” said Hamish Mitchell, president and CEO of Chem Arrow. “We are committed to retaining our valued and talented workforce and look forward to welcoming additional top-tier associates to our team.”

Strengthening market presence in North America

The United States represents the largest global market for metalworking fluids, valued at USD2.8 billion, making this acquisition a strategic move for Motul. The acquisition enables Motul to extend its influence in the Americas and broaden the scope of its product offerings to existing clients.

“The acquisition of Chem Arrow Corp. marks an important milestone in our external growth strategy. We see a lot of synergies and development opportunities with this growing player. It reinforces our know-how and expertise in the service of sustainable development in our industry,” said Stéphane Bringues, CEO of MotulTech.

Chem Arrow, founded in 1977, has subsidiaries in Canada and the United Kingdom and has developed a reputation as a global leader in metalworking solutions and HVAC fluids. The combined expertise of the two companies, along with their complementary geographical presence, positions the newly expanded group as a preferred partner for industrial metal parts producers.
