Mitsubishi Motors achieves one million vehicle milestone in Indonesia
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) has announced that its Indonesian production hub, PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Indonesia (MMKI), has reached a cumulative production milestone of one million vehicles. A ceremony commemorating this achievement was held at the MMKI facility in Bekasi Regency, West Java Province, on December 20, 2024.
A key ASEAN production hub
The MMKI facility, established in April 2017 as a joint venture between Mitsubishi Motors, Mitsubishi Corporation, and local partner PT Krama Yudha, serves as a cornerstone of Mitsubishi Motors’ operations in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region. Initially designed with an annual capacity of 160,000 vehicles, the facility expanded its output to 220,000 vehicles per year in fiscal year 2019.
The plant produces popular models such as the Pajero Sport, Xpander, Xpander Cross, Colt L300, and more recently, the Xforce and Minicab EV. Vehicles manufactured at MMKI are sold across Indonesia and exported to approximately 50 countries, including other ASEAN nations.
Takao Kato, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors, highlighted the strategic importance of the MMKI facility. “The vehicles produced here are sold throughout Indonesia, and some are exported to other countries, including ASEAN countries, so this facility plays an important role as a key ASEAN production site. We will continue to roll out highly appealing products and contribute to the further development of the Indonesian economy.”
Supporting Indonesia’s economic development
Mitsubishi Motors has contributed significantly to the development of Indonesia’s automotive industry. Employing approximately 3,500 workers, the 30-hectare MMKI facility underscores the company’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and economic growth in the region.
The company has also introduced electrified vehicles in its production line, with the Minicab EV being a key milestone towards Mitsubishi’s global ambition of achieving a 100% electrified vehicle sales ratio by 2035.
This achievement reinforces Mitsubishi Motors’ competitive edge in SUVs, pick-up trucks, and electric vehicles, solidifying its position in the global and regional automotive markets.
