Lhyfe to open green hydrogen production site in Northern France
Lhyfe, a leader in green and renewable hydrogen production, has announced the construction of its first green hydrogen facility in northern France. Located in Croixrault, Hauts-de-France, the site will produce up to two tonnes of green hydrogen per day upon commissioning in 2026. This marks Lhyfe’s fifth site in France, reinforcing its expansion across Europe.
Strategically positioned in an industrial and transport hub, this facility will supply hydrogen to local manufacturers and mobility sectors, supporting the decarbonisation of heavy transport and industrial operations. The project is part of a wider regional initiative by the Communauté de Communes Somme Sud-Ouest (CC2SO) to promote economic growth and energy sovereignty.
Lhyfe has been a pioneer in green hydrogen since 2019, inaugurating its first plant in 2021. The company produces hydrogen through electrolysis powered by renewable energy, ensuring zero-emission production. The new 5 MW electrolyser at Croixrault will significantly contribute to reducing carbon emissions, providing an alternative to fossil fuels for industrial and mobility applications.
“The Hauts-de-France region is a key industrial centre. By offering locally produced hydrogen, we can accelerate decarbonisation while reinforcing the area’s reindustrialisation,” said Maud Augeai, sales director France at Lhyfe.
Decarbonising Industry and Transport
The site will support manufacturers in sectors such as chemicals, metallurgy, steel, and glass, which currently rely on grey hydrogen. Lhyfe’s green hydrogen will provide a sustainable replacement, fostering a shift towards low-carbon industrial processes.
Additionally, the facility will cater to logistics and transport networks, providing hydrogen for heavy goods vehicles, buses, refuse collection fleets, and other mobility solutions in one of Europe’s major logistics hubs.
Beyond its role in industrial and transport decarbonisation, the Croixrault facility will also aid in power grid stabilisation. Lhyfe’s flexible production capabilities allow it to modulate electricity usage based on demand, contributing to the regional energy balance.
Alain Desfosses, president of CC2SO, stated: “Lhyfe’s project aligns with our ambition to develop sustainable energy solutions and create a thriving industrial ecosystem in the Somme region.”
This latest project strengthens Lhyfe’s presence in France, complementing existing sites in Pays de la Loire, Brittany, Occitanie, and Auvergne Rhône-Alpes. With ongoing developments across Europe, the company remains at the forefront of green hydrogen production.
