Yunnan Investment Group and BYD to build new energy vehicle production plants
Yunnan Investment Group and BYD, the fastest-growing Chinese automotive and green energy technology enterprise, announced that they intend to open new energy vehicle production plants in Yunnan Province. The new plants will expand BYD’s EV and new-energy businesses into southwest China and nearby Asian countries, such as Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam.
The BYD-Yunnan cooperation will follow three stages next year. It will first develop the market with BYD, supplying Yunnan Investment Holdings BYD e6 electric taxis, which will be dispatched from the main cities of Yunnan, including Kunming, Qujin, Zhaotong, Honghe, Dali and Wenshen. Next, business development will expand into electrified urban public transportation using BYD’s GreenCity electric buses for public transport, tourism shuttles, government and municipal facilities transport. Finally, BYD will work with Yunnan Investment to set up a new-energy vehicle manufacturing base that will serve all of southwest China and neighboring Asian countries. (September 13, 2012)
