Yunnan aims to become China’s largest biodiesel base
Yunnan province aims to establish the largest biodiesel extraction base in China by utilizing its mountain resources to develop Barbadosnut, an oil-bearing plant. Yunnan boasts of rich mountain resources where it grows more than 4,669 hectares of natural Barbadosnut forest. One ton of Barbadosnut seeds can produce about 0.3 ton of biodiesel. Yunnan plans to expand the Barbadosnut forest to 667,000 hectares and extract one million tons of biodiesel every year by around 2015. By this time, it is expected that Yunnan will become the largest biodiesel extraction base in China. (July 16, 2008)
