Yamaha targets sales of 2.8 million units by 2018

Speaking at the launch of the company’s new scooter, the Yamaha Ray, in Hyderabad, India, India Yamaha Motor (IYM) CEO & Managing Director Hiroyuki Suzuki said that the company would build a new manufacturing plant in Chennai, which would help the company achieve its ambitious sales target of 1 million units in 2014. IYM currently sells nearly 400,000 units per year, with exports accounting for 20% of the company’s total sales.
A division of Japan’s Yamaha Motor Co., IYM further aims to double its sales of two wheelers in India to two million units by 2016, and subsequently to 2.8 million units in 2018.
India is the world’s second largest market for two wheelers, with total sales of 13.4 million units in 2011-12.
