Wilmar’s Surabaya plant to begin operations
Singapore-listed Wilmar International, which runs the giant 1.05 million metric ton per year Pelintung biodiesel plant in Indonesia, will begin operations of its second plant, with an annual capacity of 350,000 metric tons, in Surabaya in early 2010. This essentially would make it the single largest palm biodiesel manufacturer in the world. The second plant was commissioned recently. A key difference between Wilmar and other biodiesel producers is that Wilmar is the world’s biggest producer of palm oil, the feedstock for most Asian plants that most other producers are struggling to get hold of at an affordable price.
