Walmart to utilize Castrol’s environmentally friendly system for oil changes

U.S.-based Walmart will switch to Castrol’s Enviro-Pack (E-Pack) and e-dispense at the company’s Tire and Lube Express sites. The new system uses e-packs (poly bag inside corrugated carton) instead of plastic bottles and bulk tanks. The e-Pack provides an 86% reduction in residual oil vs. plastic bottles, according to Castrol. Scott McCarter, senior director of Walmart Tire and Lube Express, said “Our partnership with Castrol and investment in the e-Pack product for our Tire and Lube Express business addresses a dual business objective of greater operational efficiency and a focus on more environmentally friendly packaging. Our work with Castrol is unique in our space and has revolutionized how we purchase and utilize oil. Replacing more costly bulk tanks with e-Packs and e-dispense units will have a substantive benefit for our business by reducing construction costs and improving inventory management.” The use of the e-pack has allowed companies like Castrol to save more than 2 million pounds of plastic from entering landfills. Walmart currently has 2,500 Tire and Lube Express facilities in the United States. (July 22, 2011)
