VW reveals XL1 concept plug-in diesel hybrid
Volkswagen AG (VW) has unveiled its new Volkswagen XL1 Super Efficient Vehicle (SEV) at the Qatar Motor Show. The XL1, powered by a tiny 800cc diesel engine, is rated at a 313 miles per gallon fuel efficiency and produces only 24g of CO2 per kilometer traveled. Although it is only a concept, VW said it is serious about developing the XL1 and aims to put it into production possibly in 2013. The XL1 represents the latest step in Volkswagen’s nine-year mission to create a so-called “One- Liter car” that can travel 100km on a single liter of fuel. (January 30, 2011)
