Vopak starts construction of storage facility in Johor
Royal Vopak, the Netherlands-based oil and chemicals storage provider, and Malaysia’s Dialog, began construction of Southeast Asia’s first independent liquid storage facility. The Pengerang terminal will offer much-needed storage in the area. Located at the southern tip of Johor state, the Pengerang region is close to international shipping routes and Singapore’s international petroleum hub. The facility is scheduled to operate in 2014 with a total capacity of 1.3 million cubic meters. Two-thirds of the storage capacity will be for clean products. Investment is projected to be US$620 million. Plans are to expand capacity by 1 million cu m. The project is one of several that are designed to develop southeast Johor into an oil storage and trading hub. (April 27, 2012)
