Volvo to launch hybrid bus in Bangalore

Volvo said it will soon launch its hybrid bus in Bangalore, India. The single bus, which seats 105 passengers, will have a two-month trial run in the city. The bus has two engines: a diesel and electric motor, which can be used independently or jointly. The battery, which drives the motor, is charged through a re-generative braking technology. The engine shuts off automatically when the vehicle is stationary and starts again only when the bus reaches 15-20 kilometers per hour, which adds considerably to fuel savings. (January 23, 2012)
