Volkswagen develops passenger car for Russia
German automaker Volkswagen has designed a passenger car specifically for the Russian market, the economic news agency PRIME-TASS reported. The starting price for the new Volkswagen Polo, is 399,000 rubles (US$12,523). The new sedan is equipped with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 105 horse power. Production of the new model started in early June at the carmaker’ s Russian plant in the city of Kaluga, Volkswagen Group Russia Chief Executive Officer Dietmar Korzekwa told reporters. The carmaker plans to produce 10,000 such cars by the end of this year and about 30,000 cars in 2011, he said. (June 2, 2010)
