Volkswagen China to raise fuel efficiency by 20%

German automaker Volkswagen AG is set to lower the per-kilometer fuel consumption and exhaust emissions of its Chinese-made cars by 20% before 2010, said Zhang Suixin, vice president of Volkswagen Group China. VW plans to apply more cutting-edge technologies at its Chinese factories, besides its newest ground speed indicator (GSI) technology and gearbox technology, said Zhang.  Conventional engines still support further improvement in terms of energy savings and emissions cut, he said. VW’s new technology can help lower fuel consumption by 3 liters per 100 kilometers and reduce carbon dioxide emissions to 27 grams for the same length. (October 20, 2009)
