Vietnam to begin campaign to boost E5 use

By December 1, 2014, Vietnam will begin a campaign to boost the use of E5 (5% ethanol-95% gasoline blend) in seven areas of the country, namely Hanoi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Can Tho, Quang Ngai, HCM City and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade said that only three out of more than 10 petroleum wholesalers in the country, PV Oil, Petec and SaigonPetro, are involved in trading E5. In the first nine months of 2012, the country’s total consumption of E5 was estimated at 15,000 cubic meters, which is equivalent to 750 cubic meters of ethanol. The amount represents only two and a half days of an average ethanol plant’s output.
After a year-long campaign, beginning in December 1, 2015, the government will make the use of E5 compulsory for all on-road vehicles nationwide. (November 27, 2012)
