Vietnam gets ready to start construction of Nghi Son refinery

Vietnam is forecast to need 1,000 workers to operate the first phase of the US$6.2-billion Nghi Son oil refinery and petrochemical complex in the central province of Thanh Hoa in early 2014, said Cao Hoai Duong, deputy general director of Nghi Son Oil Refinery Petrochemical Ltd. Co. The company plans to recruit between 2,000 and 3,000 local employees to build the plant between 2010 and 2013. The management board of the complex plans to hand over a cleared site to project investors on August 31. Construction of the 325-hectare complex, located at the Nghi Son Economic Zone in Tinh Gia district, is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of this year, with a planned operation of the first phase in 2013. With a capacity of refining 200,000 barrels of crude oil per day or 10 million tons per annum, the refinery is expected to produce annually 2.4 million tons of gasoline, 3.8 million tons of diesel fuel, 400,000 tons of polypropylene, 600,000 tons of jet fuels and nearly one million tons of other chemicals.
