UPPCL to promote biofuel use for power generation

The Indian government announced that it is set to promote biofuel to produce electricity. Navneet Sehgal, chairman and managing director of Uttar Pradesh Power Corp. Ltd. (UPPCL) asked private power production units to increase their production to address the power crisis. He also said that all sugar and rice mills should try to increase their Plant Load Factor (PLF). Sehgal said that the state government would bring in a policy for the units. In the process, the units, which are producing power with the help of biofuel, would be encouraged. (January 19, 2009)
