Unisel takes on clean fuel challenge

Malaysia’s Universiti Industri Selangor (Unisel) will carry out a hi-tech research program costing 11.7 million ringgit (US$3.47 million) on engines running on natural gas for commercial use in heavy vehicles. Based on earlier research, development and testing, compressed natural gas (CNG) can be used as an alternative fuel for lorries, buses and other heavy vehicles running on diesel fuel. Unisel is expected to produce a dual-fuel engine and CNG compressor as the main components for the system. The project, commissioned by Johor-based transport operator TN Engineering Sdn Bhd, is scheduled for completion in 2012. (October 18, 2009)
