Two-wheeler sales in India bounce back
After a few months’ slowdown, sales of two wheelers in India are showing signs of recovery in both the scooter and motorcycle segments. The new gearless scooter has gained acceptability, especially among working-women motorcycle drivers, whose number has been growing. Yamaha and Piaggio India have led the recovery, while Honda, Hero, TVS, Suzuki, and Bajaj are experiencing a resurgence of growth as they launch new models and improve their service performance.
Electric two wheelers have seen significant growth in a few Asian markets, especially China. However, growth in the Indian market has been less than satisfactory until recently. Almost 99% of electric two wheelers are gearless scooters, with a battery life expectancy of two years, or around 25,000 km. (December 7, 2012)
