Two-wheeler sales in India bounce back

After a few monthsโ€™ slowdown, sales of two wheelers in India are showing signs of recovery in both the scooter and motorcycle segments. The new gearless scooter has gained acceptability, especially among working-women motorcycle drivers, whose number has been growing. Yamaha and Piaggio India have led the recovery, while Honda, Hero, TVS, Suzuki, and Bajaj are experiencing a resurgence of growth as they launch new models and improve their service performance.
Electric two wheelers have seen significant growth in a few Asian markets, especially China. However, growth in the Indian market has been less than satisfactory until recently. Almost 99% of electric two wheelers are gearless scooters, with a battery life expectancy of two years, or around 25,000 km. (December 7, 2012)
